Ratha Sapthami
Feb 04, 2025
The term "Ratha" refers to a chariot, and "Saptami" means the seventh day. Therefore, Ratha Saptami is often referred to as the Chariot Festival of the Sun. Ratha Saptami marks the day when the Sun God, Surya, is believed to have begun his journey towards the north (Uttarayana), signifying the increase in the intensity of the sun’s rays, which leads to the onset of spring. It is also said to be the day when Surya, riding his chariot drawn by seven horses, begins his movement through the zodiac sign of Aquarius (Kumbha Rashi), leading to a period of warmth and prosperity for the Earth.
