Skanda Sashti celebrates Lord Murugan’s victory over the demon Surapadman, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. The six-day festival culminates in Soorasamharam, commemorating Lord Murugan’s victory with His divine Vel (spear). Surapadman is transformed into a peacock and a rooster, which become associated with Lord Murugan. The seventh day marks Thirukalyanam, the divine wedding, followed by breaking the fast. Devotees seek Lord Murugan’s blessings for courage, wisdom, peace, and prosperity.
